Adventurous Get-Aways to the Lysefjord

Hi! Are you interested in a Fjord Retreat in Flørli, Norway? To work online, be creative, study things or just chill out in an inspirational setting? This is possible in Flørli at discounted rates in our low-season!*

Flørli is a tiny village without road access on the shores of the Lysefjord. There’s a fast ferry directly to Flørli from Forsand and Lauvvik – easy! It goes twice daily, except for saturdays – see getting here.

As the ferry penetrates the dark waters of the fjord and you bend your neck looking up against the towering bigwalls, you’ll soon understand why Flørli is the must-be place you’ve dreamt of retreating to: here you will spend a precious time tucked away from it all, alone or with friends, in comfortable housing with breathtaking views and all the facilities to get your projects along! Flørli invites you to discover the magic of Fjord Norway at its best. Read more.

In the Lysefjord, all seasons here have their unique charm – the beautiful fall colours, snow on the mountains and the fresh green of spring all paint the fjord in their hues. You’ll have to bear in mind however, that mobility is impaired in winter when the top of the stairs and Kjerag generally have a lot of snow and are not safe to visit. The village itself is often snow-free.

To enjoy it here, you have to be active and somewhat adventurous: you’ll have to walk steep up the mountain or get onto the fjord. Come make the best of it yourself and with your fellow Retreaters! Click on the left side tabs for trip suggestions 🙂

From november to the middle of may, the higher parts of the stairs are usually closed with snow. But you can still do “the small round” to step 800 or hike to the snow and back down – great fitness! A worthwhile alternative is to do the new spectacular hikes Flørlineset Opp, Flørli Cliffhike and the new Fosshike. Read more about hiking in Flørli. The Lysefjord is also popular for Trail Running! If you like, you can rent snowshoes and back country skies to discover the Frafjordheiane highlands just above Flørli.

Equipment rental

We rent out snowshoes and backcountry skies if you’re in for a winter adventure in the Frafjordheiane Landscape Reserve.

  • Inook Snowshoes: 350kr/day, 650kr/stay
  • Fisher BC 99 backcountry set: 550kr/day, 950kr/stay
  • Other expedition gear available: winter tent 3-pers, Bergans Rondane sleeping bags, Fjellpulken BC sled and more.

If you’d like to go fishing, we rent out simple tackles. There’s plenty fish in the fjord – pollacks, cod, ling, cusk, halibut. There’s also a rowing boat that you can use for free to get out on the fjord. When you want to venture further, we rent out canoes and kayaks in good weather conditions.

The fjord near Flørli is jaw-dropping. Glide silently underneath the towering cliffs, look deep into the crystal clear waters and pay attention to the seals, ducks and other wildlife around you. There are some lovely, idyllic pastures and hamlets that you can choose as a goal for a picknick! Read more about kayak rental.

The Preikestolen or Pulpit Rock is often accessible also in winter. The Kjerag and Kjeragbolten are not so.

When you come in winter, we do not recommend either of these trips – also because it will be difficult to walk fast enough to catch the afternoon ferry back to Flørli. In summer and early fall, this is how to visit Preikestolen and Kjerag.

Let us help you make a hop on – hop off program for using the daily ferry to discover other magical places along the fjord!

Facilities offered:

  • spacious livingrooms in the apartments,
  • access to meeting rooms and large rooms for exercise (not included)
  • access to fast internet
